![]() ![]() ![]() This is kinda like a buddy punching you in the gut every time you see him. If a mage is constantly sending spirits into combat where they get hurt/disrupted, how happy are spirits going to be with that mage? which is very hard to enforce if the spirit is under constant PC control. and the mage should treat them with respect, or suffer the consequences. Spirits are a very powerful ally of a mage. ![]() (like sending them constantly into combat where they get hurt or disrupted ) And they can get VERY hostile to a summoning mage that abuses them. ![]() They respond to how and why a mage uses/summons them. Under the direct control of the mage, yes, but they are not some mindless automation. What a lot of players (and GMs) fail to realize about spirits (and thus leads to the "OMG spirits are OP, nerf them now!!" arguments and posts) is that spirits are sapient, and have their own motives, ideas, expressions, feelings, wants, loves, vices, hatreds and goals. It's really not my desire to start any kind of argument over this however, but i'm quite happy to continue debating on the subject to develop both our perspectives on it Critters and what-not would still fall under GM control i believe, should they ever be used in outrageously clever/improper ways (im lucky enough to have avoided such an occasion so far.) Besides, spirits aren't pet the moment you actually acknowledge they have Sapience as an ability. Moreso, it does line up the spirit's habits with the summoner's, giving it a more personnalised/attuned feel, in my opinion at least (and it prevents situations where i could exploit GM knowledge against my own NPCs, while also allowing clever ideas i didnt think of to affect my NPCs negatively, which i probably wouldnt do, fairness-wise, if i was in control of said spirits.). And considering that afaik, spirits fight to the best of their abilities, i dont think it matters much in the end in the OP-or-Not debate. He often uses Enhanced Reflex on himself to keep up, initiative-wise, but it does make for less stellar performances than gung-ho gilettes, physads and whatnots.Īs for controlling the spirit in battle (as opposed to usual GM control when on other tasks), it's also an ease on the GM, and ends up giving the group a feeling of having accomplished things by themselves rather than witnessing an npc duke it out with another npc at the end of the day. Being a dwarf with low agi, his mobility is likewise affected, barely catching up to high agi characters even under the Mouvement power. But to get into specifics, the character has the added responsability of being group healer, both mundane and magical. Some of these are twisted or even toxic ones, while other so called "Wild Spirits" are only extremly strange, and metaplanar creatures like the Shedim, Horrors or Nomad Spirits are some of the most possibly dangerous magical hazzards to metahumanity.Well, useless weight might be a bit of an exageration.
